Retail Brands Use Social Media (Chapter 10)

Social media has become an important component for retail stores. Over 90% of retailers now use 2 or more channels to communicate with customers. I think this article can create some interesting discussion about social media and retailing.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why is it important for retailers to use social media?
  2. Why do you think apparel retailers are the most connected?
  3. Why do you think Instagram has shown the most growth?
  4. Do you follow any retailers through social media? If so, which retailers and which social media? If not, why not?

Social Media (Chapter 13)

This study by Sprout Social was interesting and may be useful to you when teaching Chapter 13. Here are some questions that you may use if you want to assign it to students to read, or if you want to use it in class for a discussion.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What are the current social trends cited in the article?
  2. Look at the Consumer Engagement Index on page 7. Can you explain why the industries are ranked this way, especially those with high levels of inbound engagement and those with low levels of inbound engagement?
  3. Compare the Consumer Engagement Index on page 7 to the response chart on page 8? Which industries are dong the best at responding? Which are doing the worst?

Coca Cola Ad (Chapter 1)

I think this advertisement by Coca Cola is a good one to use to introduce marketing and the impact advertising can have.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What do you think is the primary message Coca Cola wants to convey with this ad?
  2. Does the ad have any impact on “social bullying?” Why or why not?
  3. Is this ad a good example of societal marketing? Why or why not?
  4. What is your overall opinion of this ad?
